Gallery 291 is very pleased to present the premier exhibit of Jim Marshall printed in platinum.
Platinum prints are noted for their beautiful luminosity and wide tonal range. The shadows contain details that silver prints are typically unable to portray. Mid-tones are expanded¬タヤand highlight areas have detail unattainable in the silver printing process. Platinum, one of the most inert elements in existence, contributes to the extreme archival stability of platinum prints.
Throughout the history of photography, many methods of expression have been employed, such as daguerreotypes, carbon, gravure and silver. The platinum print, despite its expense and arduous process, has always been revered by the world¬タルs greatest photographers. In recent years, with the greater appreciation of photography as an art form, and a continuing rise in value of photographs, platinum is once again gaining favor among fine art photographers.
